25 Feb “Just a spoonful of sugar almond butter”… does not amount to anything good.
(Note: If allergic or you’re out of nut butter, the same effect can be accomplished with couscous or quinoa.)
Sooo, one fateful afternoon, I followed the recipe above. I made the ‘oh my great balls of fire, what was I thinking’ rookie-move mistake of giving my son a spoonful of almond butter… wait for it… in his carseat. That’s right, I handed him the spoon, loaded him into the car, and proceeded to hop in the drivers seat and head to Publix for a little grocery shopping. HAHAHAHAHHAHAH. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA.
When I turnt (yes turnt) that car off and took a peek into that backseat to collect my child, it was like I dipped my boy in some glue, then threw him in the middle of a sandstorm in the Sahara desert. There were little flecks of almond butter everywhere. Face, hair, hands, arms, legs, carseat straps, carseat buckle… you get the point. See, when I gave him the spoon, he was so cute, properly eating the almond butter off the spoon with such enjoyment and care. And once we got in the car I noticed it was a little quiet in the backseat, but the naive parent in me just chalked it up to general contentment and almond butter satisfaction. I even started plotting on how I’d prepare an almond butter spoon for each trip out from this day forward because, my goodness this was better than any fake baby keys or stuffed animal I could toss to the backseat for a 20 second, cry-free atmosphere. Silly Val. There weren’t enough baby wipes in the entire Huggies factory to undo all the wrong I had done. I sure learned my lesson that day.
